Was bringt eigentlich....ein Serum?

What's the point of...a serum?

The range of skin care products is as rich as it is confusing. There is almost nothing here that doesn't exist. But do you really need all the products offered in drugstores? And what are certain things actually good for?

We will gradually give you an overview of the diverse product range and explain to you why and whether you even need an item.

Let's get a way through the jungle! Today we start with the so-called serum.

What is a serum?

Serums are considered particularly intensively nourishing products because they penetrate the skin much deeper than conventional creams. You can compare them with active ingredient concentrates. Their ingredients are usually highly concentrated and contain substances such as antioxidants, hyaluronic acid or skin's own proteins. Serums have a light texture, can be liquid or oily and are ideally applied under a cream or mask. They are absorbed particularly quickly, but generally have hardly any moisturizing active ingredients and are therefore not intended as a replacement for day or night care, but rather as a supplement. They are available for almost every skin problem. Due to their special ingredients and highly intensive formulas, they are considered a kind of miracle cure for the skin. And they are very productive - although this often comes with a high price.

How and when do I use a serum?

Serums are also applied directly to the skin before using the face cream and are not washed off. This is followed by normal care with the cream. Depending on the product and needs, these can be used either daily or at regular intervals. Since serums are more concentrated than conventional skin care products, just a few drops are usually enough, which you can gently tap into your facial skin daily or as needed in the morning or evening. It can be used on the face as well as on the neck and décolleté. The serum is always applied under the day or night cream and not over it. If you did it the other way around, the cream would prevent the serum from being absorbed. An optimal care routine with a serum could look like this:

- Cleanse with a gentle cleansing gel, such as our Moist Liquid Cleanser.

- If necessary, clarify the skin with a facial toner to remove excess sebum, dirt or make-up residue.

- Apply the serum selectively to the face, neck and décolleté and gently pat in with your fingertips or massage gently.

- Apply day or night cream.

Which serum for my skin?

There are many different serums for almost every skin type and skin problem. Whether to avoid wrinkles, for dry skin or to reduce hyperpigmentation, various products are offered. The selection is huge and you are sure to find something that suits your skin type.
